Why is the scheme free?

The government has ECO schemes to improve the energy efficiency for households, especially those on low incomes, but also to reduce the carbon footprint to try to help the reduction of global warming. If you have an old, inefficient boiler these can take a long time to heat up which results in high energy loss and more energy consumption. Which not only results in a high carbon footprint but also higher energy bills.

Insulating homes and installing more efficient heating systems, makes a household not only more comfortable to live in, but will also reduce energy bills.

The government is working towards helping to keep people warmer, but also lower their energy bills and to improve the effect it is having on the environment.

The Schemes have run since 2013 improving 2.4 million homes. The current scheme (ECO4) runs until 2026, with a funding pot of £1 billion per annum, improving the efficiency of homes, consequently improving people’s health and wellbeing.

Making households better insulated and energy efficient not only makes them more comfortable to live in but it also makes them more resilient to the impacts we are facing with climate change.

The current scheme of ECO4 is looking to upgrade around 450,000 homes during its 4 years. Improving the household EPC’s ensures that households will not face fuel poverty, as it helps reduce household bills by around £290 on average, but could save the more inefficient households up to £1,600.
